There are lots of people who think Tesoro has no business being ranked as a top five team in Southern California.

The Titans are 6-0 but have close wins over Newhall Hart, Chaparral and Trabuco Hills thanks to rising up in the fourth quarter.

Next up is a Friday South Coast League showdown with unbeaten El Toro at Trabuco Hills, followed by another showdown next week against Mission Viejo. Those two games will offer a clear understanding of where Tesoro stands.

I say let’s hold off on a final judgment of Tesoro until after we learn more over the next two weeks. This is a team with many returning starters, and they respond well when the game gets tough. Of course, they need to be more consistent and put together a complete game.

But I have a feeling defensive lineman Chazz Roberts and running back Nate Tago are going to ignite a Tesoro resurgence over the next two weeks.
