Girls’ basketball: Windward defeats LB Poly in overtime, 59-57

There was a girls’ basketball classic played on Saturday night at L.A. Windward. The Wildcats and Long Beach Poly went into overtime, and Windward won, 59-57, to improve to 21-0. It was the second win this season for the Wildcats against the Southern Section Division 1AA powerhouse Jackrabbits.
Macchiati Smith scored seven points in overtime for Windward. Free throws by Jordin Canada and Kristen Simon in the final nine seconds broke a 57-57 tie.
Canada sent the game into overtime by making one of two free throws with 4.5 seconds left in regulation. Windward rallied from an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit.
Simon finished with 15 points and Canada had 14.
