Baseball: Harvard-Westlake stays unbeaten

Harvard-Westlake (6-0) tuned up for its Mission League opener on Tuesday against Loyola with a 3-0 victory over Camarillo. Four pitchers combined on a two-hitter. Arden Pabst had a triple for the Wolverines.

Another unbeaten team is Covina Northview (5-0), which won the Dick’s Sporting Goods tournament with a 5-3 victory over South Hills. Jake Grijalva had a two-run double. Nick Chico improved to 3-0 and earned tournament MVP honors.

L.A. Cathedral defeated La Habra, 3-0. Dniel Rosas struck out three and walked none in a complete game. El Dorado defeated Vista Murrieta, 3-1.

Alemany defeated Birmingham, 3-1. Kyle Merkel struck out six in five innings. Rene Deleon struck out two to pick up the save. Gus Mendoza and Paul Banyi had two hits each.

El Camino Real defeated Simi Valley, 3-2. Luke Laurita threw a complete game. Newbury Park defeated Chatsworth, 5-1. Burbank Burroughs swept a doubleheader from Dos Pueblos, 5-4 and 1-0.

Taft defeated Kennedy, 3-2. Justin Martinez had two hits and Adam Cox had two RBIs. Justin Kanoff picked up the save by escaping a bases loaded situation in the seventh. Moises Ceja had three hits for Kennedy. Buena defeated Clovis East, 2-0, with Addison Pelapessy throwing a four-hitter.

Quartz Hill defeated Paraclete, 11-1, in five innings. Alec Smith had two hits and three RBIs. Tyle Boyes had three hits. Joe Goring had two hits in Granada Hills’ 6-5 win over Buckley.

Canyon Country Canyon defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 9-1 and 8-5. Beckman received four hits from Brennan Guinet in a 14-1 win over Ayala. Tyler Flores had three hits but Westlake was beaten by Santa Barbara, 7-6.

Verdugo Hills defeated Cleveland, 6-4, in 10 innings. Baldwin Park defeated Crescenta Valley, 5-2. Gardena Serra defeated St. John Bosco, 16-6. Ryan Dobson had two singles and pitched four innings. Dominic Smith had a single and triple and four RBIs.

Chaminade defeated Hart, 6-1. Kevin Roche had three RBIs and Blake Rutherford had two hits.
