With a starting lineup of mostly underclassmen, Wilmington Banning won its ninth consecutive Marine League game and took over sole possession of first place with an 8-2 victory over Narbonne on Monday.
The Pilots (15-15, 9-0) got six strikeouts and six innings from junior ace Gino Brockway. Junior Andre Villarreal had two hits and three RBIs. Junior Juan Gallardo picked up his 16th double of the season. Sophomore Jason Yanez went two for four with two RBIs. Lawrence Navejar went three for three with two doubles.
The two teams end the regular season on Wednesday at Narbonne (8-1).
‘We played a real tough schedule,’ Coach John Gonzalez said his team’s nonleague games. ‘It was almost a learning situation.’
