Track: Dorsey’s Reginald Bell wins appeal, is back in state 110 hurdles

Reginald Bell of Dorsey, the state’s leading 110-meter hurdler who failed to qualify for the state championships after a controversial ruling at Wednesday’s City Section championships, has won an appeal and will get to race at next week’s state finals in Clovis.

Bell finished fourth in the race after he had to sprint off the track and get a new shirt when the track starter ruled he was wearing an illegal shirt. The warning didn’t come until after he was in the starting blocks. The race started immediately after Bell returned from sprinting across the Birmingham track.

‘He was not given ample time to correct the problem,’ assistant commissioner Vicki Lagos said.

The City Section will have four representatives in the 110 hurdles. No athlete will be removed.

‘He’s very happy,’ Dorsey Coach Ralph Tilley said of Bell, who won the 300 hurdles.
