LA84 Foundation awards $1.5 million to youth sports programs

The LA84 Foundation has announced its latest sports grants to youth organizations promoting sports in Southern California, and there were 38 recipients for $1.5 million given out.

That brings the total funds awarded since its inception to more than $214 million. The LA84 Foundation invests proceeds from the 1984 Olympic Games in support of non-profit organizations in eight counties in Southern California.

Among the recipients: $496,946 for the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Beyond the Bell after-school sports program for 98 middle schools; $20,000 for a new dock for the Lake Casitas Rowing Assn.; $74,882 for a swimming pool renovation and programs for the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club; $20,000 for the Santa Clarita Speed Skating Club to purchase safety equipment; $10,000 for the West Valley Eagles Youth Football program to purchase new helmets and offer scholarships; $125,000 for Students Run America to train for the 2013-14 LA Marathon.
