Egypt protesters try to storm Syrian Embassy in Cairo

CAIRO -- Egyptian security forces fired tear gas to thwart several hundred protesters who tried storm the Syrian Embassy in Cairo to raise the flag of Syria’s opposition.

The protesters were joined by Syrian expatriates and opposition figures, who have set up a ‘revolution tent’ near the Arab League building off Tahrir Square, the epicenter of Egypt’s uprising last year.

The protest came shortly after the Wednesday morning bombing in Damascus, the Syrian capital, that killed the country’s defense minister and two other top officials from President Bashar Assad’s administration.

Shortly after the news, Syrian and Egyptian protesters danced and sang in front of the revolution tent in celebration of what they saw as a victory against Assad’s regime. In Cairo, supporters of Syria’s rebels said they believed it was only a ‘matter of time’ before Assad was forced to step down.
