A Los Angeles man who police said tried to rob an elderly couple waiting for an elevator outside a Beverly Hills New Year’s Eve party was shot to death by the 81-year-old man. Beverly Hills Police Sgt. Joe Langer said Alan Jerome Paige, 26, died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center less than an hour after police found him lying in the 100 block of South Maple Drive. Langer said Paige, who had been “arrested a number of times (for) the same kind of thing,” had stopped Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Korshak as they waited for an elevator to take them to a friend’s apartment. Paige had just “demanded money and jewelry (and) simulated a gun,” Langer said, when Korshak “produced a revolver (and) shot.” The Korshaks--both of whom have a history of heart problems--were questioned by police but not charged, Langer said. The case will be sent to the district attorney’s office for review, he said.
