Stanton : Council Limits Terms, Repeals Rent Control Law
Two laws, one limiting the number of consecutive terms for City Council members and the other repealing the city’s mobile home rent control ordinance, have been passed by the council.
The two laws, approved Tuesday night, constitute major reforms sought by council members elected in November.
The first restricts to two the number of consecutive terms for future council members. It also permits a member who fills an unexpired four-year term to serve two additional consecutive terms if less than two years remained of the unexpired term.
The mobile home rent control ordinance was passed by the council in 1981 but has been held in limbo since then by a court injunction. In November, Stanton voters resoundingly rejected a similar ordinance that had been placed on the ballot by former council members.
