Allan Shivers, 77, Dies; Former Texas Governor

AUSTIN, Tex. —
Allan Shivers, governor of Texas from 1949 to 1957 and later chairman of the University of Texas System Board of Regents, died Monday in an Austin hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was 77.
