Patron Sues Over Restaurant’s Ouster of Seeing-Eye Dog
A 24-year-old Oxnard man filed a $100,000 lawsuit Thursday in Orange County against Burger King and its Mission Viejo franchise for allegedly refusing to sell him food because he brought his seeing-eye dog into the fast-food establishment.
Steve Galloway suffers from the hereditary disease of retinitis pigmentosa, which has made him legally blind and will eventually make him permanently blind, according to his lawyer, Susan D. Wright of Oxnard.
In an interview, Galloway said he was “embarrassed” by the Burger King manager’s insistence that he leave even after he showed her a special state-issued card saying he is legally blind and that his dog was allowed in such establishments.
Galloway said the Nov. 11 incident occurred at the Burger King at 25110 Marguerite Parkway.
