A 36-year-old transient was killed Wednesday night when he walked into traffic and was hit by a car, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said. Richard M. Wagner was walking east on Interstate 8 west of Taylor Street in the Old Town area of San Diego around 6 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he walked into the traffic and was hit by a car driven by Virginia Agnew, 23, of Encinitas, CHP spokeswoman Marsha Stout said. Wagner was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he died at 7:58 p.m., hospital officials said.
