Family’s Dog Kills 2-Month-Old Girl
One of two family dogs that bit through a mesh playpen killed a 2-month-old Hesperia girl while her mother was in another part of the house, authorities said. Sarah Megan Foster was pronounced dead of head injuries at St. Mary Desert Valley Hospital after the attack in the family home on Mojave Road. “The mother went to answer the door in another part of the house and put the child in the playpen in an enclosed porch,” Deputy San Bernardino County Coroner Marshall Freney said. “She was gone no more than three or four minutes.” Authorities said the case is being treated as an accidental death. The dog that apparently killed Sarah, a 2-year-old male, was taken with the other dog to the Victor Valley Animal Protective League shelter in Apple Valley. Shelter manager James Lippincott said a decision about whether to destroy the animals “. . . is not up to us, but is up to the county.”
