A pedestrian was killed late Tuesday night when he was run over by a tractor-trailer truck as he was crawling across Interstate 5, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. Lynn Lee Vlasschaert, 26, of Norwalk, Calif., was traveling north at 60 m.p.h. on I-5 at 11:05 p.m. near Poinsettia Lane in Carlsbad when he saw a man crawling on the highway, said CHP Officer B.J. Country. The victim, whose name was being withheld until his family was notified, appeared to be looking for something on the road and was only 20 feet from the front of the truck when Vlasschaert saw him. Vlasschaert pulled off the road and a car driven by Timothy J. Chambers, 34, of Carlsbad also ran over the man, Country said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges were filed against either driver.
