PDA Engineering of Santa Ana, which earlier this month completed its initial public offering, said net income for its second fiscal quarter rose 49.9% from the year-ago quarter.

Spence Allen, the company’s director of finance, attributed the increase in profits to higher sales of the PDA’s computer software products. In addition the engineering programs, the company provides engineering services.

For the quarter, net earnings were $290,000, compared to $199,000 in the 1983 period. Revenues were $3.8 million, up 45% from $2.5 million a year ago.

For the first six months, PDA earned $479,000, up 32% from $361,000 in the first six months of 1983. First-half revenues rose 52% to $7.3 million from $4.8 million in the first half of 1983.

In its public offering of 1 million shares of common stock, the company raised $7.2 million.
