Two men and a woman were jailed on suspicion of grand theft Friday after their alleged robbery attempt of a La Jolla jewelry shop was foiled by the store owner, a passer-by and a policeman, San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson reported. A man walked into Little Switzerland Jewelers, 7910 Girard Ave., about 12:30 p.m. and asked a clerk to show him two diamond-cluster rings, together worth about $5,000. The bandit grabbed the rings and ran out of the store. Store owner Gerhard Klein ran after him. The man then entered a waiting car with two people in it, the police spokesman said. A passing bicyclist, Harold Elwood Casteel, deliberately maneuvered in front of the car. The bicycle was struck, but Casteel was unhurt. At that point, police officer Bob McDonald noticed the commotion and drove his patrol car into the path of the suspects’ car, then stepped from the car holding his shotgun. The three surrendered. James Mason, 33; Tracy Womack, 23, and Glenn D. Walker, 29, all of Chula Vista, were booked at the County Jail. Womack was then taken to the Las Colinas County Jail for women.
