Temporary 22-Cent ‘D’ Stamps Put On Sale
United Press International
WASHINGTON — Stamps bearing the letter “D” went on sale Friday at post offices nationwide to temporarily replace the 20-cent first-class stamp. The postal rate goes up to 22 cents Feb. 17.
The “D” stamps have a green background and are being issued in sheet, coil and booklet formats. Embossed envelopes bearing the “D” postage designation also are available. Commemorative stamps and other 22-cent stamps are expected to replace the “D” stamps by the end of March, the postal service said.
