‘Select’ Knowledge
How does Bill Mitchell (“Museum Plans Draw Interest, Speculation,” Jan. 26) know that “there’s more of a select person in La Jolla--more of a person who appreciates the arts”?

City Councilman Bill Mitchell’s opinion on why the Museum of Contemporary Art should remain in La Jolla demands response.
To quote: “There is more of a select person in La Jolla, more of a person who appreciates the arts.” La Jollans should be insulted to learn that Mitchell judges them on their obesity. His vulgarity of usage makes me equally skeptical of his judgment.
The most significant service a museum can perform is to serve the masses, if by “masses” Mitchell refers condescendingly to the common people.
