Eugene O’Neill’s 14-acre hillside estate in Danville near Oakland, where he wrote “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” “The Iceman Cometh” and other works, has been restored and is open to the public. The decision to open the home, called Tao House, on a limited basis under direction of the National Park Service ends several years of debate. Residents of the exclusive neighborhood had fought the restoration, fearing that the area would be flooded by tourists. Under the agreement, two tour vans a day will be allowed to use a private road to reach the 13-room home.
