La Palma Phone Service Cut by Damaged Cable
A damaged cable knocked out telephone service for several hours Saturday and Sunday for about 300 users in La Palma, including emergency lines into La Palma Police Department headquarters.
The interruption began about 7:25 a.m. Saturday and service was fully restored by 9 a.m. Sunday.
La Palma’s emergency 911 lines were rerouted through the Buena Park Police Department as soon as the interruption was discovered, police dispatcher Laura Patrick said. Service on non-emergency police lines was partially restored by 2:50 p.m. Saturday, she said.
Pacific Telephone employees working through the night found the damaged cable in the 5900 block of Orangethorpe Avenue about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The affected lines were located around the Orangethorpe Avenue-Walker Street area, officials said.
