PHILADELPHIA — Three former police officers were sentenced by a federal district judge to prison terms ranging from three to seven years Monday for accepting bribes to protect illegal gambling.
The officers, convicted on charges of conspiracy, racketeering and extortion stemming from a 3 1/2-year probe, were among 17 convicted in a conspiracy that prosecutors say resulted in the extortion of $350,000 since January, 1980.
