Eustace Tilley
We are shocked and offended by the Conrad cartoon’s (Jan. 31) shameful abuse of the New Yorker’s cover published each year to celebrate its founding. To us--as loyal readers of that magazine for 50 years--that cover and its drawing of foppish, peaceful Eustace Tilley is a veritable symbol of the integrity and quality of the New Yorker.
So, we think it is highly unfair for you to defile that symbol by putting a gun in Eustace Tilley’s hand and thereby identifying both the New Yorker and Eustace Tilley as culprits in the recent subway shooting/
