Digest : Local News in Brief : 17-Year-Old Arrested in Canoga Park Slaying
West Valley detectives Monday night arrested a Canoga Park youth on suspicion of the murder of a 19-year-old beautician whose body was found earlier that day in her car parked on a residential street.
Detective Joe Diglio said the 17-year-old suspect was a friend of the victim, Dana Phleger of Sepulveda. Phleger died of multiple stab wounds Friday. Her body was found in her car at Platt Avenue and Pomelo Drive in Canoga Park by residents who said they wondered why the car was not moved during the weekend.
Diglio said evidence found in the car, later corroborated by the suspect, led to his arrest.
The suspect’s name was withheld because he is a minor. A hearing will be held today to determine whether the youth should be released to his parents’ custody or remain in county Juvenile Hall pending his trial.
