Police were investigating two armed robberies at Costa Mesa motels that appeared to be the work of the same man. Police said a man armed with a handgun took about $500 from the Rodeway Inn at 1690 Superior Ave. at about 6:45 p.m., and a handgun-toting robber took about $300 from the Don Quixote Motel, 2100 Newport Blvd., about 25 minutes later. No one was injured in either holdup. The bandit in both cases was described as a white male about 30 to 35 years old, about 5-foot-9 and of slim to medium build.
