Two bills designed to reduce the risk of contracting acquired immune deficiency syndrome through blood transfusions have been approved by the Assembly Health Committee. The bills provide $5 million for confidential, free AIDS screening at health clinics. Testing at blood banks has been ordered by the federal government, but health officials have warned that blood banks could be flooded with possibly contaminated donations unless alternate sites were provided.
