Cooler but Clear : Weather Will Suit Tournament to a Tee
A high-pressure system, responsible for a near-record high temperature Thursday at Lindbergh Field, is rapidly deteriorating, weather forecasters say, and cooler weather will follow this weekend.
But despite the return to more seasonal weather with typical night and morning low clouds, skies will be generally clear in the afternoon today, Saturday and Sunday, said Wilbur Shigehara, a National Weather Service forecaster. And no rain is predicted for the Isuzu Andy Williams San Diego Open that wraps up this weekend at Torrey Pines Golf Course.
The high temperature Thursday was 84, just one degree short of the record high of 85 for Feb. 14, set in 1943. The dissipating system first will bring a cooling trend to the coastal areas this morning with strong sea breezes and some fog, Shigehara said.
By Saturday, the inland areas will also begin to cool. Daytime temperatures today in the inland areas will be 82 to 88, with Saturday’s about 76 degrees. Nighttime temperatures there through Sunday should be 42 to 50.
The coastal areas should have daytime temperatures today of 75 to 81, with highs Saturday from 70 to 77. On Sunday, temperatures in all areas should not rise above 70.
The demise of the high-pressure system, however, could allow southerly moving storms to reach the San Diego area by Sunday evening, Shigehara said.
Mountain areas will have gusty winds this weekend, with highs about 65 and nighttime temperatures in the 30s. The desert should be mostly clear with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the 50s.
