Bomb Damages Home of W. Berlin Security Chief
BERLIN — A bomb damaged the home of West Berlin’s security chief early today, and he linked the attack to the terrorist Red Army Faction.
Manfred Ganschow, chief of West Berlin’s State Security Office, and his wife escaped injury. He told reporters that the bombing was “politically motivated and must be seen in connection with attacks by the Red Army Faction.”
The left-wing urban guerrilla gang is trying to undermine the West German state. It has been blamed for more than 30 bombing and arson attacks since mid-December.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
Ganschow said the assailants tossed the homemade bomb against the rear of his home at 2 a.m., and the explosion destroyed a balcony door and windows, shredded a plastic covering on an awning and damaged an exterior wall.
