Baptist High Wins Soccer Title, 3-1
L.A. Baptist High won the Alpha league soccer title Thursday as the Knights defeated Montclair Prep, 3-1, at Montclair Prep.
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the first half when Don Carlson came out of a scramble in front of the net and scored.
Baptist scored twice in the second half before Montclair got on the scoreboard with two minutes left in the game. Scott Ellison scored for Baptist 10 minutes into the half and Kirk Autio converted on a penalty kick with 15 minutes left to increase the Lions’ lead to 3-0. Tony Murilo scored the only goal for Montclair.
The win gives Baptist an 11-0-2 league record, 16-2-2 overall, going into the playoffs next week. Montclair qualified for the last Alpha playoff spot with a 7-3-2 league and 8-6-2 overall mark.
