Norman Vincent Peale, minister, motivational speaker and author, will be the featured speaker at the 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. services Sunday at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove. Peale is the author of “The Power of Positive Thinking” and has served as senior pastor of the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City for 52 years. He also is co-publisher along with his wife, Ruth, of Guideposts magazine.
Sandi Patti and Larnelle Harris, gospel recording artists, will also be at the Sunday services. The duo won a 1984 Grammy Award for best gospel performance for the song “More Than Wonderful” and also the Dove Award for the song of the year.

A special choral concert will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Anaheim United Methodist Church. Thomas Sheets, the church’s director of music, will conduct the concert, which will give him partial fulfillment of the requirements for a doctor of music degree from USC.
The choir is made up of 48 singers performing works from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Scott Peck, author of “The Road Less Traveled,” will speak at the 10 a.m. service Sunday at Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ in Laguna Niguel.

An Ash Wednesday potluck dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday before the church service at 7:30 p.m. at Orangethorpe United Methodist Church in Fullerton. The dinner will be held in the church’s patio lounge.
Participants with last names beginning with A through L are asked to bring a meatless casserole. Those with last names beginning with M through Z are asked to bring a salad. Participants are also to bring their own table service. Coffee and punch will be provided.
The church is also offering a Hatha Yoga class from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays in the patio lounge. Participants should not eat two hours prior to class and should come dressed in warm, comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Students are also asked to bring an exercise mat or pad. The suggested donation is $12 for first-time students or $10 for returning students. This is a fund-raising project for the church and society work area.

“Pastoral Ministry to the Chemically Dependent and Their Families” is the title of a two-day workshop to be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 14 and 15 at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange. The workshop is designed to assist clergy in handling the problems of alcohol or drug abuse in families. The Hazelden Foundation staff from Minnesota will conduct the seminar.

“Faith, War and Peace in the Nuclear Age” is the title of a video presentation that will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark Presbyterian Church. The Peace Havurah of Temple Shir Ha-Ma’alot and the Social Concerns Committee from St. Mark’s are sponsoring the event.
A panel discussion on the dangers posed by an unrestrained nuclear arms race will follow the video. The Rev. William A. McQuoid of St. Mark’s and Rabbi Bernard P. King of Shir Ha-Ma’alot will serve on the panel.
The event will be held in the main sanctuary shared by the temple and the church at 2100-A Mar Vista Drive, Newport Beach.
The Bell Canto Ladies Choir will perform in concert at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Crystal Cathedral. This will be a pre-service concert prior to the evening service.

Ronnie Brown and his trio will perform a benefit Mardi Gras jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Laguna Beach. Brown categorizes himself as a “jazz pianist with classical influence” and has played with Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, Al Hirt, Dean Martin and Vikki Carr.
Also appearing are blues and jazz vocalist Darvy Traylor and tenor Ronaldi Bellini.
Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets will be sold at the door the evening of the performance for $17. Refreshments will be served.

“Demonology/Mental Illness?” is the title of a seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. next Saturday at Brea Hospital, 875 N. Brea Blvd., Brea. The seminar is designed for religious and clinical professionals. The seminar is approved for four hours of credit by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
The seminar will feature H. Newton Malony and Rich Buhler. Malony is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice and a professor of psychology and director of programs in the integration of psychology and theology at the Graduate School of Psychology of Fuller Theological Seminary. His topic will be “The Existence of the Devil: Problem and Possibility.”
Buhler is a minister, speaker, author and the host of “Talk From the Heart,” a radio show on Christian radio station KBRT. Buhler’s topic is “Deliverance . . . From What?
