A 17-year-old boy suspected of car theft was shot and wounded by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies. A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department said the boy, who was not identified because of his age, was found in the front seat of a car parked in the Inglewood area by deputies responding to a report of an attempted car theft. Ordered to get out of the vehicle, the youngster crouched and seemed to be reaching for a weapon, the spokesman said. One of the deputies fired a single shot, which struck the youth in the shoulder. He was taken to Martin Luther King Jr.-Drew Medical Center, where he was reported in stable condition.
