The State : Reactor Unit Shut Down
The Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant’s Unit 1 reactor was shut down manually by technicians who examined the reactor’s main feedwater pumps to find the trouble. Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokeswoman Roberta Palm said operators shut down Unit 1 after two main feedwater pumps that supply water to the plant’s steam generators stopped automatically. Plant technicians planned to resume testing at various levels of power after determining what had caused the steam generators to malfunction.
