An unorthodox Christian sect based in Sacramento is staging war games and possibly training members in paramilitary techniques, a newspaper there reported. Free Love Ministries runs four communal houses in downtown Sacramento and operates a military-type outpost in nearby El Dorado County, the Sacramento Bee said. Former members of the sect said that Jim Green, the founder, is a self-proclaimed spiritual leader and that his wife, Lila, routinely reports prophecies from God. Members said the two justify the outpost as a way to toughen members for work in missions. Lila Green told the Bee last summer, “If you want a nice family church, this ministry is not the place.” El Dorado law enforcement officials are investigating activities of the 50-member group but have not filed any charges.
