N. G. Pringle, Veteran Radio Figure, Dies
Nelson G. (Pete) Pringle, the first news director of CBS’ KNX radio station here, is dead at the age of 82, friends reported Tuesday. Pringle died Sunday of lung cancer at his home in Newport Beach.
He served as news director of KNX and the Pacific Radio Network, a regional hookup of CBS-affiliated stations in 11 Western states, from 1937 to 1944. He later broadcast for KNX as a news analyst before resigning to do free-lance assignments. He was a founding member of the Greater Los Angeles Press Club.
Before coming to Los Angeles, Pringle, a native New Englander, worked as a newsman for the Yankee Radio Network and the Honolulu Advertiser.
He is survived by his wife, Bunty Pringle and six children. Funeral services will be private.
