Three Corsair Cagers Win Metro Honors
Tim Preston, Santa Monica College sophomore guard, has been named to the All-Metropolitan Conference first team.
Corsair forward Kim Jones was named to the All-Metro second team and forward Don Dorsey received an honorable mention.
The third-place Corsairs (16-13, 9-5) were scheduled to play fourth-place Pasadena (14-4, 8-6) Wednesday at Santa Monica in a playoff opener. The playoffs will determine the league’s second state tournament representative. First-place El Camino (29-1, 14-0) is assured of a berth at the tournament and will not compete in the playoffs.
If the Corsairs beat Pasadena, they should play second-place Long Beach (25-6, 12-2) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Long Beach.
In league play, Long Beach has twice beaten the Corsairs, 79-62 and 103-80.
Long Beach is scoring 61% from the floor and 68% from the free throw line. The team is led by guard Derek Jones (20.2 point-average, 7.8 rebounds), followed by Curtis Moore (15.1 points, five rebounds) and Johnny Griffin (15 points, 6.3 rebounds).
The Corsairs, hitting 64% from the floor and 50% from the line, are led by Preston (12.5 points, 3.8 rebounds), forward Mike Bragg (10.9 points, 6.5 rebounds), Jones (9.9 points, 7.1 rebounds) and Dorsey (10.1 points, 4.9 rebounds).
