The Red Sox’s rally came against converted outfielder Scott Terry.

Cincinnati Manager Pete Rose made his 1985 playing debut, getting a single in the fourth and a run-scoring double in a five-run fifth as the designated hitter.

Rice hit his second exhibition homer over the fence atop the left-field wall after Tom Browning had walked the first two batters in the Boston first.

At Miami, Mike Young drove in four runs as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Texas Rangers, 5-2.

The Orioles, who improved their exhibition record to 5-1, scored three unearned runs in the first inning. An error by second baseman Wayne Tolleson set the stage for Young’s bases-loaded triple off losing pitcher Tommy Boggs. Young drove in another run with a double in the seventh inning.

Mike Boddicker got the win, pitching four innings and allowing three hits and one run.
