Flores to Campaign for Finn

Assured of reelection in her harbor area district, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores is scheduled to campaign door-to-door today in the northeast San Fernando Valley for the reelection of her colleague, Councilman Howard Finn.

“I’m fond of Howard,” said Flores, who has received a kiss on her cheek from Finn the morning of every council meeting since the two were elected in 1981.

It is unusual for council members to become involved in the politics of other districts.

Flores is rumored to be interested in running for the council presidency, and Finn holds the swing vote in the council’s July election of its presiding officer.

The councilwoman said she is walking precincts for Finn because she would like to see Finn reelected.

“I don’t have any ulterior motives,” she said.

Finn is favored to win reelection on April 9 against opponents Louis Cichelli, Noel Horwin and Elton (Skip) Michael.

Candidates’ Forum Features 3 Races

A candidates’ forum will be sponsored by a coalition of East San Fernando Valley homeowners’ groups at 8 p.m. Monday at Colfax Elementary School, 11720 Addison St., North Hollywood. Speakers at the meeting will include mayoral candidate John Ferraro; city attorney candidates James Hahn, Lisa Specht, Murray Kane and Charles Zinger, and city controller candidates Dan Shapiro, Alice Travis and Rick Tuttle. Councilman Ernani Bernardi also will discuss his campaign-contribution reform proposal on the April 9 city ballot.
