The short connector road from MacArthur Boulevard to the northbound Corona del Mar Freeway (California 73) will be closed permanently, starting today.

Caltrans officials said the closure is related to construction work on the 1 1/2-mile extension of the Corona del Mar Freeway.

“The initial indication is that the MacArthur Boulevard ramp will be eliminated,” said Thomas Knox, Caltrans information officer. “This is in relation to the continued work on the (Route) 73.”

Traffic heading to the San Diego Freeway from Corona del Mar can continue north to that freeway on MacArthur Boulevard. Traffic accessing the northbound 73, northbound 55 or northbound 405 can continue north on MacArthur Boulevard and then turn left onto Jamboree Road, Birch Street or Campus Drive to pick up the northbound 73.

Construction related to the extension of the Corona del Mar Freeway will also proceed on the northbound and southbound on-ramps at Jamboree Road. The extension of Jamboree Road is expected to be completed by the end of 1985 and opened to traffic.
