Natalie Cole’s Ex-Husband Dies
CHICAGO — The Rev. Marvin J. Yancy, who produced three Grammy-winning records for his former wife, Natalie Cole, died here last Friday. He was 34 and suffered a heart attack.
A local pastor, Yancy had worked as a musician and composer before producing “This Will Be,” “Inseparable” and “Sophisticated Lady,” the three Grammy winners.
Yancy and Cole--daughter of the late singer Nat (King) Cole--were wed in 1976. The marriage ended in separation in 1979 and produced one son.
Yancy became pastor of the Fountain of Life Baptist Church after the death of his father in 1977.
