Emergency Food Distributed:Emergency food packages for families are now being distributed to the needy throughout the county by anti-poverty agencies under the direction of the Food Distribution Center Serving Orange County. The center, a clearinghouse for the 41 nonprofit agencies that are providing the food packages, was awarded a $219,869 grant under the Federal Emergency Management Act, according to Kelley Sullivan, program coordinator. Sullivan said 20,000 packages providing at least 10 meals for a family of four are being distributed. The meals include tuna, frozen chicken, macaroni, beans, rice, butter, cheese, canned vegetables, tomato sauce and apple sauce, Sullivan said. Residents unfamiliar with the location of the nearest agency are urged to call 771-1343.
