Princess Unable to Shed Smoking Habit

LONDON — Princess Margaret, who had a small, non-malignant amount of lung tissue removed in January, has lost a battle to shake the cigarette habit, the British Broadcasting Corp. said today.
The 54-year-old princess lit up twice Tuesday during a luncheon, the first time she had been seen smoking in public since the operation. Buckingham Palace refused to comment, saying smoking is a personal matter.
