Lewis, DeBusk Get Annual Honors
Mater Dei High School’s Tom Lewis was named Orange County’s Player of the Year Tuesday night at an awards ceremony in the Harry Chandler Auditorium at Los Angeles.
Lewis had 2,456 points during his three-year career and finished fourth on the Southern Section’s all-time scoring list.
Lewis, a 6-foot 8-inch senior, averaged 31.7 points per game. He became only the second county player to win the award for two straight seasons. The other is former Los Amigos center Clayton Olivier, who plays for USC.
Jerry DeBusk, who led Newport Harbor to a 24-4 record and the Sea View League title, was named Coach of the Year. The Sailors had their best season in the school’s history under DeBusk.
