Warmth Expected to Make Comeback for the Weekend
April’s first heat wave cooled off in midweek, but according to the National Weather Service temperatures will begin inching upward again today, bringing back balmy weather for the weekend.
April Fool’s Day arrived with a record-breaking high temperature of 87. The previous record was 83, set 14 years ago at Lindbergh Field. The temperature rose to 88 Tuesday before falling to 74 on Wednesday and dropping to 65 on Thursday.
The Santa Ana condition that swept hot desert air across the county to the ocean early this week not only blew in high temperatures, but evaporated moisture. Humidity fell to a low 15% along the coast Monday.
Winds shifted Wednesday and the familiar onshore flow of air returned as a low-pressure trough over the Colorado River sucked sea air eastward. Humidity jumped to 68% at Lindbergh Field by Thursday afternoon.
A high-pressure system building in the northwest Thursday was forecast to extend southward today. Forecasters predicted it should reduce morning cloudiness and protect San Diego County from a Pacific storm through the weekend.
Although some high clouds may reach here, sunshine and warm temperatures are expected to prevail.
Temperatures in all areas will warm gradually through Easter Sunday.
Deserts will be hot--highs may reach 100. Lows are expected to be around 60 degrees.
Springlike temperatures will warm mountain areas, with highs in the 70s and lows around 50. Beach temperatures in the 60s today should reach the 70s by Saturday, and coastal strip daytime temperatures of 71 today will creep to the mid-70s over the weekend.
High temperatures inland may reach the 80s by Easter, with lows in the 50s.
