The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors asked for a study to compare the wages of women and men in similar county jobs after a women’s group charged that female county employees work in a “pink-collared ghetto.” Women carrying pink balloons and other backers broke into applause after the supervisors voted 4 to 1 for the study. Comparable value is “an issue of morality and justice,” Supervisor Dianne McKenna said.
