A team from Beverly Hills High School placed second in the 4th annual U.S. Academic Decathlon at Loyola Marymount University. A team from J. J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Tex., won the top honors with a total of 46,976 points out of a possible 60,000. The Beverly Hills team scored 46,504. Yuk Lung Ha, Joey Waxman, Todd Gooch and Saul Kotzubei won individual honors for their team. The team won $3,000 scholarships. This year 34 states participated in the contest.
