Local News in Brief : Man Slain, 2nd Beaten in 2 Pacoima Attacks
A 48-year-old man was found dead and another man was found severely beaten Sunday in two apparently unrelated assaults in Pacoima, police reported.
The body of William E. Baldwin was discovered on the sidewalk at Mercer Avenue and Remick Street early Sunday after witnesses reportedly saw Baldwin assaulted by a 25-year-old man, police said.
Baldwin was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Police said there was no known motive and there was no suspect in custody.
A second man, who was not identified, was found unconscious about 7 a.m. by police near San Fernando Road and the Pacoima Wash. The man, the victim of an apparent assault, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where officials declined to give his condition.
Police said the man was probably attacked during a robbery.
