1 Suspect Released in Slaying of 2 Sisters
One of two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of two Pacoima sisters was released from custody Wednesday after the district attorney’s office decided not to file charges against him.
Despite his release, Gilbert Pena, 27, is still a suspect in the shooting deaths of 61-year-old Angie Hernandez and 52-year-old Mary Gomez, said Larry Tucker, a Los Angeles Police Department homicide detective.
Suspects must be released if the district attorney’s office does not file charges within 72 hours of the arrest, said Deputy Dist. Atty. John Spillane.
“We made the decision not to file any charges on him at this time,” Spillane said. “The investigation is continuing, and he is still a suspect in the case.”
Hernandez’s son, Charles de la Cuesta, was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of first-degree murder. He is being held without bail in County Jail and faces a preliminary hearing on April 25 in San Fernando Municipal Court.
