Firemen Probe Warehouse, Market Blazes
Fire officials Friday were investigating separate blazes that hit a chemical warehouse in Vernon and a vacant market in Buena Park, causing a total of $370,000 in damage.
Flames raged out of control for 90 minutes in a Vernon chemical warehouse early Friday before more than 100 firefighters from seven departments brought it under control at 6:25 a.m., Vernon Fire Battalion Chief Larry Spadt said.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, which destroyed the building owned by Estech General at 4060 26th St., Spadt said. Damage was estimated at $250,000.
Building Destroyed
Meanwhile, Buena Park fire officials searched for clues to a blaze that destroyed a vacant market scheduled for demolition and sent smoke into an adjacent Thrifty Drug and Discount Store Thursday night.
It took more than an hour for 110 firefighters to extinguish the fire at the vacant Von’s Market at Beach Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue, said Capt. John Schwab of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Teams from Orange County, Brea, La Habra and Fullerton joined Buena Park and Los Angeles County firefighters at the scene.
Damage was estimated at $120,000 at the 40,000-square-foot building.
