The Edison High School baseball team defeated Fountain Valley, 3-2, Friday to remain a game behind first-place Huntington Beach in the Sunset League.
But it wasn’t easy as the Chargers (5-4, 14-7) got the winning runs off one of Orange County’s best pitchers and had to hold off a Baron rally that had the bases loaded in the seventh inning.
In the fifth inning Fountain Valley (4-4-1) brought in Bob Sharpnack with runners on second and third. Third baseman Jeff Kent hit a two-run single to put the Chargers ahead 3-2.
The Barons loaded the bases in the seventh with two outs when Bob Snowden grounded a ball to Kent at third. Kent tagged the runner going from second to third to end the game.
