USIA Launches TV Reports in Europe
The U.S. Information Agency on Monday launched a daily, two-hour television feed to Europe with a news report largely critical of President Reagan’s planned visit to a German military cemetery.
The two-hour long transmission of news, business and cultural programs is to be transmitted each weekday for use by European television stations.
USIA Director Charles Z. Wick said that it was the policy of his agency to reflect all aspects of responsible American opinion, pointing out that most of the opinions in Monday’s initial news broadcast were against the cemetery visit.
“There was very little that was in support,” he told a news conference.
The television transmissions are to begin each day with 30 minutes of news followed by feature programs and interviews of U.S. officials by reporters in Europe.
