‘Mental Health Sham’ in State
What to do about the problem usually comes down to money. Why the money was not asked for long ago, and why it will be an uphill battle for Assembly Bill 2541, the Mental Health Services Reform Act, introduced by Assemblyman Bruce Bronzan (D-Fresno) to succeed has at its roots a problem worth investigating.
What do you feel when you meet someone with schizophrenia or manic depression? If you have a mentally ill relative, do you talk about the illness and the related family emotional and financial problems? Why aren’t there telethons for the mentally ill? Where there is ignorance, there is frustration. Where there’s frustration, there’s apathy.
Communication about mental illness is what’s needed and wanted. The need for money will be a fact, not a question.
